Sævar-Hestr [Sea Stallion]

The Sævar-Hestr is an ash-built knórr, a common sight along the coast of Denmark and very far beyond. By the looks of her timbers she was built in the last five years and hasn't been heavily abused, she has a simple wooden prow with nothing mounted on it. The Sævar-Hestr was 'given' to the Menn af Vágrvik by the new Bishop of Hamma on the condition that they bring him regular news from Norþhymbra Rīce.

A crew of eleven, including the steersman, is an averaged sized rowing crew for this type of boat, although she can perform much better with up to twenty one men at the oars. She can sail with just three men in a pinch, but they'd struggle to manoeuvre her with oars. This class of vessel is the smallest type of true sea-going ship, although she has a very shallow draft so tends to be operated along coasts and up rivers. With plenty of space for cargo and provisions, she has the potential to make extended voyages.

It appears as if the Sævar-Hestr has become known as the Sǣ-Hors among the Anglian community of Eoferwic (Jórvík), it has the equivalent or even the same meaning in both tongues.
