Tjodolfr is a Norwegian, but he has strong cultural and family ties to Denmark where he lives in the settlement of Vágrvik in Western Jutland with his uncle. He's very tall and has a medium build, he's said to be less charming than most and very unlucky. As a member of the Gestir he has responsibilities in the community and must follow orders.

The Saga of Tjodolfr Gyrðison

It is well known that the men of Rogaland have a good relationship with the Danes. It’s been like that for a long time. Now it looks like they will have control over Viken in Norway again after the Gods took away Halftan Svarte’s luck when he went through the ice after the Yule feasting. It’s important to be lucky, lucky men will gather men and wealth around them said Gyrði Tokison: Þjóðolfr’s father.

It was Spring in the year of 860, Tjodolfr had just came back from his fostering in Denmark. Four years previously when sending Tjodolfr to Denamrk at the age of eight, Gyrði had said, “It’s important for all true warriors to learn from other great men, not just you father.”

Þjóðolfr was not glad to be back, he missed all his friends in Denmark, but his Mother, Gudny, was dead and it was time to bury her. They had put her in the earth two days ago, a small stone cairn with a flat lying menhir on top. There she lay, the most fun and loving person in all of Norway. Late winter and early spring is no fun in Rogaland, the sky was overcast and it was raining.

Summer came quickly, and Tjodolfr lived with his father and some thralls on a small farmstead in a West Norwegian fjord. There he learned to work with sheep, something quite different from the cattle he used to manage in Denmark. When not working with the sheep Tjodolfr was taught to craft objects from antler and bone. He made spoons, jewellery, but he was best at making combs. When not doing this there was the weapon training, and then playing with other children, but he was almost a grown-up, so there was less and less time for play.

There were other members of Tjodolfr’s family on the same fjord. It was Tjodolfr’s uncle, Oddgeir, and his children. The oldest was Toke, then it was Synnøve who was the same age as Þjóðolfr, Alvar was younger and Wiljarwas just a tolder. Oddgeirs steading was bigger than Gyrði’s and they often worked together, so Tjodolfr spent a lot of time with his cousin and did not miss Denmark too much…

“It’s the beacon fire on the hill, they are sending a hærpil*. Get your weapons and send a messenger to Oddgeir. The leidang** need to be raised!”, growled Gyrði as he was shaking the Þjóðolfr to wake him in the night. *call to arms, **militia

It was now the summer 866 and Tjodolfr had grown. He was now a man of seventeen and a Norse warrior. Throughout Spring there had been rumours that Haraldr Hálfdanarson, a petty king of Sogn [Sóknardalr], had assembled an army and was burning the land and offering battle across the whole of Vestlandet. Haraldr Hálfdanarson, was sometimes called Haraldr Hárfagri, because his promised not to comb his hair before Norway became one united kingdom. He had succeeded the kingdom of Sogn from his grandfather Harald Gullskjegg [Goldbeard] and was now eager for more power.

Later that day there was a gathering for the men of the leiðangr. A messenger had come from the north and told of a battle in Hordaland, and that Haraldr Hárfagri forces’ were victorious and was sailing south to give battle and conquer Rogaland. A few days later, the army’s gathered and there was a great slaughter.

During the battle, Tjodolfr,well-known for his bad luck, slipped in some blood, and was knocked unconscious. He was left for dead, woke up at the end of the battle and found his father dead. Tjodolfr took his father’s body and his sword and managed to flee back to the family farm, here de discovered that his Uncle Oddgeir and the rest of his family, except Toke, were planning to flee Norway.

After the funeral of Gyrði, Þjóðolfr started to look for a boat that could take him back to Denmark. He knew that it was only a matter of time before Harald and his men would come to the Fjord to take the land. On the road, Tjodolfr came across a peddler, he offered to read his future for a silver coin, but having no money he offered to share his meal, which the peddler accepted. Reading his palm the peddler declared he would be a great hero and travel the world, but not before encountering a great sorrow, a great victory and a great reversal. Þjóðolfr has often since wondered what he meant because none of those thing have come to pass.

In Denamrk, Tjodolfr first went to his Mother’s uncle where he was fostered. This was Thorgrimr Bloodgeir, one of Þórgnýr Haraldson’s (the Jarl of Ribe) Hirðmen. Thorgrimr did not need another warrior or farmhand so he made Þjóðolfr a member of the gestir and sent him to work for Kolskegg Snaeulfson, as a warrior and as a farm hand. Þjóðolfr now hopes to rise above the rank of karl, and gather land for himself somewhere, but most importantly he seeks glory and reputation.

Dolfr used a luck point to force the Harbour Master to re-roll his Oratory as per this post in OOC.
